Organic SEO Helps Industrial Firm Weather Recession
Pilot Fish Organic SEO Case Study
One company has weathered the current recession as a result of a well-timed website redesign and organic SEO program that is generating new business.
The business-to-business company, which operates in the industrial market, hired Pilot Fish in 2007 to redesign and search engine optimize its web site. The new site launched in December of that year and by January 2008 already was seeing the results. (For competitive reasons, the company mentioned in this article has not been identified.)
Prior to the site redesign and organic SEO, the website had been generating 27% of its website traffic from search engines, while referring sites (third-party, non-search engine sites) were responsible for 12.5% of monthly site traffic. A year later, Google was contributing 55% of the web site's traffic and other non-search engine referring sites were generating 26% of the site's traffic.
Within a month of the new site's launch, web site traffic was up 60% and continued double-digit increases throughout the year. By the end of 2008, monthly traffic to the site had increased by more than 800% from January 2008. The increase in traffic was directly attributable to the web site's improved performance on Google and new traffic from many third-party sites from which it obtained incoming links.
In addition to the redesign and on-page optimization, the company participated in Pilot Fish's Sustained Success SEO program, which provides additional organic SEO benefits through monthly link-building services via links, press releases and articles on third-party sites. Prior to the organic SEO program, the company had 12 incoming links. A year later, the site had more than 500.
As a result of the company's full commitment to the site redesign and ongoing, monthly organic SEO program, the new web site now generates traffic from 795 different keywords. Its improved positioning on the search engines as well as its presence on many other third-party sites has turned the website into a consistent lead generator.
"Our website generated a 400% increase in the number of business leads as a result of the site redesign and organic SEO program," the company president said. "The project was well worth the cost. It paid for itself in less than one year. Profit from new business gained through the redesign and SEO has more than paid for the cost of the services."
Regarding the results of this organic SEO case study, Pilot Fish President Angela Charles said: "Organic SEO isn't a product, it's a process, and this client proved the process works. Because of the competitive nature of the Internet, organic SEO is most effective when companies make a 100% commitment to all aspects of SEO. That involves SEO keyword research to identify the best set of terms for which to optimize the site; search engine optimized content so that prospects and search engines can find the site easily; professional site design, navigation and coding to make search engine indexing seamless; and incoming links, to build credibility for the site."
